The Punk Syndrome wins two Jussi awards

The Punk Syndrome won two Jussi awards in the Jussi ceremony organised on 3rd Ferbruary 2013. Jussi is the Finnish equivalent to the Oscars, awarding the best Finnish filmmakers each year.

The selection of the award winners is made by film society Filmiaura, which consists of approximately 260 Finnish film professionals that vote for the best filmmakers in many different categories.

The Punk Syndrome won prizes for the best documentary and editing (Riitta Poikselkä).

The Punk Syndrome and the band in Montreal in November

Finland’s most kick-ass punk band Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät will make their first appearance in Canada in mid November. The band’s gig is organised together with the local film festival Rencontres Internationales du documentaire de Montréal. Besides the gig two screenings of the The Punk Syndrome take place at the festival, the first on 12th November and second on 14th November just before the band’s show.

The long-awaited The Punk Syndrome and Pertti Kurikan Nimipäivät t-shirts are finally here and ready to be ordered! The Finnish shirts Tässä lukee perkele ja En viihdy kotona are made of organic cotton. The English Punk Syndrome shirt has a print both in the front and in the back of the shirt.

All the shirts are available both in regular and lady fit styles. Tässä lukee perkele and En viihdy kotona organic cotton shirts are 25 € each and Punk Syndrome shirts 15€ each (both prices include postal expenses when delivered to Finland). The shirts can also be delivered abroad with extra delivery cost (please contact us by email for further details).

The Punk Syndrome wins prize in Poland

The Punk Syndrome has won the main prize of Films on Art Competition Programme in T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival in Poland. The festival is the biggest in Poland according to the amount of visitors at the festival, and it’s regarded as one of the most significant film events in Central Europe. The festival focuses on innovative and uncompromising films, which explore new horizons in film language and story telling. The Punk Sundrome was one of the 12 films competing in the Films on Art programme, and it won the prize of 10 000 euros.

The film has been screened already at eight international film festival around Europe and North America, and it will soon continue its way to Asia and Australia. In Finland the film has gathered already 17 000 visitors in cinemas.

Team Punk Syndrome representing Finland at Malmö Roller Derby Festival

The Official Finnish Roller Derby Team, named after the film as Team Punk Syndrome, will be traveling to Sweden to compete in the Malmö Roller Derby Festival on 13-15 July 2012. Team Punk Syndrome will compete against teams from Denmark, Norway and Sweden at a three day derby extravaganza, which also includes live music, roller disco, a derby fashion show, derby lectures, night skate and many opportunities for the general public to get a taste of the sport.  The team comprises 22 members from six Finnish leagues, who where selected through lottery to represent Finland in the Malmö Derby Cup. The event is free and families are welcome.

Roller Derby is one of the fastest growing sports in the world. Championed by women, this fast paced, full-contact sport on quad skates, was first introduced in Finland in 2009.

The Punk Syndrome to be distributed in theatres in the UK!

The Punk Syndrome will be seen on the silver screens in the UK in autumn. The film is distributed by London based November Films, which focuses on high-quality documentaries. The film is one of the few Finnish docs that get a distribution in theatres outside of Finland. The Punk Syndrome has already gained a lot of recognition in festivals abroad and won the special jury prize at Visions du Réel festival this April.

More festival screenings abroad coming this summer!

The film will be screened at numerous foreign festivals this summer. First stop is in Sheffield, where the film will be screened on 14th and 16th June at Sheffield Doc/Fest. Besides the Punk Syndrome team, also the band will travel to the festival and perform for their first time in Great Britain. During the same weekend the film will also be screened at Sodankylä Midnight Sun Film Festival.

After Sheffield the film will travel to Silverdocs festival in Silver Springs. Established by the American Film Institute and Discovery Channel, Silverdocs is one of the most recognised documentary film festivals in the States. The Punk Syndrome will be screened on 19th and 20th June in the Sterling World Competition programme, in which it will compete for the Grand Jury Prize with ten other films.

The Punk Syndrome has now 10 000 viewers in cinemas in Finland. The film premiered in the beginning of May here in Finland and has received a lot of praise from both the film critics and the audience. 10 000 viewers during three weeks for a Finnish documentary is a great accomplishment.
