Screenings of The Punk Syndrome will be organised in Helsinki also with English subtitles. English subtitles can be seen in the last Punk Syndrome screenings of the day between 18th and 24th May 2012 in Kinopalatsi. In other Kinopalatsi screenings only Swedish subtitles will be available. Swedish subtitles can also be seen in the screenings of the following theatres: Vantaa Flamingo, Espoo Omena, Turku Kinopalatsi, Pori Promenadi, Oulu Plaza.
The Punk Syndrome has been reviewed by the highly recognized film magazine Variety.
John Anderson writes: “Focusing on the handicapped head-bangers who make up the Finnish band Pertti Kurikka’s Name Day, this thin-ice-treading docu opens a window onto alternative culture, human nature and the very narrow line between so-called normal people and those on the fringe.Proper marketing could take Jukka Karkkainen and J-P Passi’s funny, edgy and very human feature into cult-hit territory, although the subject and subtitles will provide built-in limitations for this low-budget, rock-fueled verite movie.” The whole article can be read here.
The film opened in cinemas in Finland last Friday and was received very well by the audience. The Punk Syndrome was also screened in Hot Docs Festival last week. Information about forthcoming festival screenings abroad will be announced later this week.

The Punk Syndrome has been awarded with the Special Prize Swiss Post for the most innovative Feature Film at Visions du Réel festival. Organised in Nyon, Switzerland, it is one of the most distinguished documentary film festivals in the world, showcasing mostly creative and artistically high-end documentary films.
The film was competing in the main competition together with 18 other films and won the prize worth 10 000 CHF. The international jury, consisting of Anna Glogowski, Simon Kilmurry and Peter Liechti, depicted the film as follows:
”Full of warmth and humour The Punk Syndrome is an entertaining and challenging celebration of life’s pleasures. This is not only a generous encounter with people traditionally placed at society’s margins, it is also a work of rigorous and inspired filmmaking.”
